South Africa, Stellenbosch, October 2018;KLEINE

ZALZE WINES (PTY) Ltd hereby confirms that its storage and production facility in Blackheath, Kuilsriver sustained major damage in a fire around 15h00 on the 3rd of October 2018.

According to eye witnesses, the fire started at an adjacent property and due to very strong winds, the fire quickly spread to the roof of the Kleine Zalze facility. Staff were immediately evacuated but a large part of the facility was destroyed.

Kleine Zalze is, however, grateful to report that none of its staff members were injured. Kleine Zalze is currently assessing exactly what damage was done to its facility, stored wines and what the consequences are for them going forward.

The City of Cape Town’s Transport and Urban Development Authority has however issued a notice in terms of section 12 of the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act, no 103 of 1977 which declared the facility unsafe until a team of engineers inspected the building.

Kleine Zalze is also in the process of formulating a contingency plan to try and minimize disruption to their operations, and will endeavour to keep their clients abreast of the situation.

Kleine Zalze would like to thank everyone for their immediate outpouring of support, in particular their colleagues in the wine industry.

Kleine Zalze is situated in Strand Road (R44), Stellenbosch, South Africa.
